How to make your manicure last longer

A polished manicure can stay beautiful longer when everyday care protects the finish and the natural nail beneath it.

What to know

Protect the edges

Wear gloves for cleaning, gardening, and prolonged water exposure. Use the pads of your fingers—not your nails—to open cans or scrape labels.

Keep nails flexible

Massage cuticle oil around each nail daily and follow with hand cream. Hydrated skin and nails are less likely to split or catch.

A simple longevity routine

  • Avoid picking, peeling, or prying at polish or gel.
  • Dry hands thoroughly after washing and moisturize afterward.
  • File a small rough edge gently instead of pulling it.
  • Return for professional removal when gel begins to lift.
Important: If lifting, cracking, tenderness, or discoloration appears, do not glue or cover the area at home. Let a technician assess the cosmetic service, and seek medical advice for pain or signs of infection.
